Access to the best resorts in Ponta Do Ouro just got better

Mozambique tourism will soon be getting a boost with the completion of the new Maputo-Ponta do Ouro road and the Catembe bridge.  This 120km route from Mozambique’s capital city, Maputo, will run over the largest suspension bridge in Africa, spanning 680m. The road will provide a crucial, easy-to-navigate link between Maputo and the southernmost port of entry to South Africa, Kosi Bay.

The $725 million (R10bn) project is set to cut the driving time between Maputo and Kosi Bay to approximately 90 minutes, which is a huge step forward in terms of accessibility in the area. The road was previously a combination of dirt track and beach sand, requiring 4×4 vehicles to navigate.

Guests are still recommended to use a 4×4 vehicle when driving to White Pearl, as the resort is situated just off the Maputo-Ponta do Ouro road following approximately 11km of dirt track.

The tarring of the road is set for completion by January 2018, and the bridge for August 2018.
