Maputo
One of Africa’s most attractive capital cities, Maputo is known for its colonial-style architecture, proximity to the Indian Ocean and wide avenues lined with jacaranda and flame trees. Experience the bustling centre of this stately city with its range of hotels and restaurants, lively cultural scene and shady sidewalk cafés.
Maputo, a melting pot of several cultures, is located on the west side of Maputo Bay. The bay is 95 kilometres long and 30 kilometres wide. This vibrant city is 120 kilometres from the South African border. Maputo is well known for its favourable climate, ranging from 17 degrees Celsius to 30 degrees Celsius.
One of the city's most imposing buildings is the CFM Railway Station, recently voted by Newsweek as one of the 10 most beautiful train stations in the world. The dome was designed by an associate of Alexandre Gustave Eiffel (of Eiffel Tower fame).
